How To Start Your Search For A Virtual Job: Rethinking Work As A Highly Sensitive Person

The right remote job will reduce the stress of working as an HSP. If this is your first time searching for a virtual job and you don’t know where to start or how to get your foot in the door with legitimate work-from-home jobs, here are 2 job sites …

Deep down, you know it’s true.

You can’t go back to the work life you had now that you’re furloughed or have worked at home for a period of time.

As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), you have noticed the improvements in our energy level since you’ve been working from a home office. Being in your own space provides a buffer against the work drama — no jarring noises or soaking up other people’s stress and emotional discharge.

If your current or furloughed job won’t let you keep working at home when things get back to normal, maybe you’re ready to explore a new opportunity.  Here are two websites that will help you launch your virtual job search.

I don’t get any kickbacks for mentioning them, they’re just too good not to share.

Two job sites for your virtual employment search

How many times have you seen an ad for a work-from-home job promising to fill your pockets with moolah for stuffing envelopes or doing some simple job that sounds way too good to be true?

The founders started FlexJobs and Virtual Vocations to cut through those outrageous promises and provide real listings of legit virtual jobs. Both companies hand-screen and evaluate every job before it’s posted.

FlexJobs has job listings for over 34K real remote, part-time, freelance, and flexible jobs in 50+ career fields. Virtual Vocations was started by a stay-at-home mom who was annoyed by all the fake and misleading job notices for work-from-home jobs. Her site has almost 20K jobs listed in 60+ career fields.

While these job sites have thousands of jobs, know that not all of them can hire across the nation. Many employers can only hire applicants who live or hold a professional license in their state so you’ll only be a fit for a smaller number of jobs.

Job postings on both sites focus on jobs in the U.S., however FlexJobs also posts some international jobs.

The right remote job will reduce the stress of working as an HSP. If this is your first time searching for a virtual job and you don’t know where to start or how to get your foot in the door with legitimate work-from-home jobs, here are 2 job sites …

Free versus paid membership

For free, both sites offer basic information about job opportunities including job title, a brief job description and job location. You must upgrade to a paid membership to get the name of the hiring organization and to submit an application through their site.

If you buy a membership, you will get full access to their job listings. Both sites offer 3 payment options; on Virtual Vocations it’s $15.99 if you pay monthly, $39.99 for 3 months, or $59.99 for 6 months. FlexJobs has a similar structure but is a little less expensive when you buy more than one month.

Before paying, I recommend looking at their free articles.  They offer a lot of expert advice.
